HOW MUCH BEEF WILL I GET?

On average a live steer is about 1,000 lbs, but weights vary.

A whole steer yields from 380-480 lbs of beef (THW).

A half order is about 190-240 lbs of beef (THW).

This is the 'Take Home Weight' (THW), because this is how much beef you will have when your order is complete.

Your choices regarding cuts of meats, including bones and organs affect the Take Home Weight.

YOU CHOOSE THE CUTS YOU WANT

Once you place your order, you have the option to customize your cuts.

There is no additional charge for this service.

Montana Ranch and Cattle Beef includes:

WHAT WEIGHTS ARE USED?

Butchers use three weights to manage, price, and sell beef.

Live Weight: The weight of the live animal (e.g., 1,000 lbs).

Hanging Weight: The carcass weight after initial processing, about 60% of 'live' weight (e.g., 600 lbs for a 1,000 lbs steer).

Take-Home Weight: The weight of the packaged meat, usually 55-65% of the hanging weight (e.g., 360-400 lbs from a 1,000 lbs steer).

HOW TO COMPLETE YOUR ORDER

1. Select a Whole or Half Steer from the options above, and make your deposit.

PROCESSING DETAILS

We get to work as soon as we receive your order.

Usually within two to three business days, we will contact you with options for how you want your beef cut and prepared.

We select one of our 100% Grass-Fed steers that is ready for harvesting. We provide humane harvesting on our ranch, preventing the animal from the harmful stress of transportation and slaughterhouse conditions.

Our butchers will hang the carcass for about three weeks to tenderize the meat before cutting, double-wrapping, and freezing it. You will be notified when the meat is ready for pickup, typically within a day or two after processing. If needed, the butcher can hold the meat for a few days if you are unavailable.

WHEN WILL MY ORDER BE READY?

We will keep you informed so you'll know when to pick up your order.

The finishing process for takes 2-3 weeks, followed by another 3 weeks for aging and packaging.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Resale and Retail: The processed meat is for personal use only and not labeled for resale.

Currently, we offer grass-fed beef by the pound at Montana Ranch and Cattle Company.
